Did you know that Christmas card originated in England? A wealthy English painter named John Callcott Horsely created the first commercial Christmas cards that were commissioned by Sir Henry Cole in London and to be sent out to his friends and clients to wish them a happy Christmas.
One of the possessions of Sir Henry Cole’s is wonderful art shop, which specialized in decorative objects for the home. And his greatest aspiration in life was to make his surroundings beautiful. His shop then became popular to English people that earned him a good sum of money.
Cards continued to evolve throughout the 20th century with changing tastes and printing techniques. In the time of World wars it brought cards of patriotic themes with cartoon illustrations, modern Christmas cards can be bought individually but are usually sold in packs of the same or varied designs. Today, more than 2 billion Christmas cards are exchanged each year.
